Overnight Bridge Closures – SCHEDULE UPDATE – March 20, 2023

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that current overnight road closures of Route 82 over the Connecticut River (East Haddam Swing Bridge) scheduled to end on Friday, March 31, 2023 will now continue through Friday, April 7, 2023.

BRIDGE CLOSURE INFO

There will be complete bridge closures to vehicular traffic each weeknight during this duration. Be advised that Saturday and Sunday night closures may also occur if weeknights are lost. (The status of weekend overnight closures will be announced at weeks end)

 

Overnight road closures occurring in the month of March will all start at 7:00pm and conclude no later than 6:00am the following morning.

Overnight road closures occurring between April 1, 2023, through April 7, 2023 will be implemented per the following schedule:

Weeknights

  • Mon. night into Tues. morning – 7:00pm to 6:00am
  • Tues. night into Wed. morning – 7:00pm to 6:00am
  • Wed. night into Thur. morning – 11:00pm to 6:00am
  • Thur. night into Fri. morning – 11:00pm to 6:00am
  • Fri. night into Sat. morning – 11:30pm to 8:00am

Weekends (April 1st and 2nd, if required)

  • Sat. night into Sun. morning – 11:30pm to 8:00am
  • Sun. night into Mon. morning – 10:00pm to 6:00am

 Additionally, inclement weather or construction related issues could cause cancellations of overnight bridge closures, we will communicate cancellations if they occur.

DETOUR INFO

Motorist alternative options to cross the Connecticut River during these overnight bridge closures will be as follows:

  • Traveling to/from the South – Use the signed detour utilizing the Baldwin Bridge (I-95 Old Saybrook).
  • Traveling to/from the North – utilize the Arrigoni Bridge (Middletown-Portland).
