63-hour bridge closure CANCELED, overnight bridge closures to occur 9/9 and 9/10, click here for details

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is issuing the follow traffic advisory for road closures of Route 82 over the Connecticut River (East Haddam Swing Bridge).

Bridge Closures:

The 63-hour bridge closure previously announced for Sunday (9/8) at 8pm and concluding on Wednesday (9/11) at 11am has been CANCELED.

This 63-hour bridge closure will be re-scheduled with a new date, an advanced notice will be provided once the date is established.

Be advised that the next overnight bridge closures are scheduled for Mon. (9/9) and Tues. (9/10) each beginning at 7pm and ending no later than 6am the following morning.

Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances could impact these scheduled closures, any changes will be communicated.

Motorist alternative options to cross the Connecticut River during these bridge closures will be as follows:

  • Traveling to/from the South – Use the signed detour utilizing the Baldwin Bridge (I-95 Old Saybrook).
  • Traveling to/from the North – utilize the Arrigoni Bridge (Middletown-Portland).

  • Effective Nov. 11, 2022, any trucks that exceed 16 tons are restricted from using the East Haddam Swing Bridge, until further notice. Routine enforcement by the Connecticut State Police and Department of Motor Vehicles will continue to occur during this 16-ton restriction period.
  • Project WEBCAMS for monitoring traffic conditions on the bridge (one on each side of the river) and tide board clearance for maritime are available 24/7, the camera feeds are viewable from our project website homepage.
