Reduced vertical clearance for motor vehicles announced – May 18, 2023

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing reduced vertical clearance for motor vehicles on the East Haddam Swing Bridge.

The contractor will be completing the installation of an overhead gantry (moveable crane) on the westerly portion of the bridge during tonight’s overnight closure. The horizontal beam of this gantry will temporarily reduce the vertical clearance on the bridge, motorist are advised that the vertical clearance on the bridge will be reduced to 14’-6” while the gantry is in place. Effective Friday, May 19, 6am when the bridge reopens to motor vehicles.

Vehicles exceeding 14’-6” in height should use the alternate options to cross the Connecticut River.
